The space station is charged with researching a hostile alien collective called the Typhon and during the project the Typhon escapes confinement. The player must use a variety of skills and weapons to avoid being killed by the aliens and escape the space station. Players gain access to the space station’s various areas through acquisition of key items and abilities.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds entered the gaming world in late 2017 but it quickly sold 10 million copies based on the fact that it was available in early access for most of the year. The game centers on a ‘battle royale’ competition that pits 100 players against one another. Last man standing in the high-stakes fight across a huge map wins. The game is the latest in a series of games that was developed under the 2000 film Battle Royale banner.

In the game, 100 players must parachute onto an island where they scavenge for equipment and weapons. They are hunted so they must kill their predators while trying to avoid being killed themselves. As the “safe area” decreases over time surviving players must form tighter and tighter circles to both attack the hunters and defend themselves. Last  team or player standing wins the round.

Mario Rabbids Kingdom Battle

Ubisoft introduced Mario Rabbids as a zany and engaging video game that combines XCOM-style turn-based combat with the world of Mario and Rabbids creatures. In Kingdom Battle Mario and his Rabbids – Luigi, Princess Peach and Yoshi – enter the Mushroom Kingdom where they try to save it from a threatening vortex.

Players need to solve puzzles and outwit unpredictable enemies in turn-based combat and co-op challenges in order to bring peace and justice back to the once-sanguine Mushroom Kingdom.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

Uncharted: Lost Legacyhasreceived positive reviews with praise focusing on its characterizations, writing, design and the chemistry created between the characters, This is an adventure-action game that expands on the previous Uncharted 4 video game. Players follow fortune hunter Chloe who searches for the Tusk of Ganesh in the wilds of India during a civil war. She is helped by Nadine, an ex-mercenary and the two set out in vehicle and on foot in their quest for the tusk.

Gamers compete from a third-person perspective using stealth, melee combat techniques and firearms to defend themselves while conducting their search. The game involves puzzes that incorporate varying platformer elements that advance the narrative.

Sonic Mania

The Sonic franchise is up and at’em in the newest and most engaging of its recent releases. Retro Sonic returns in this addictive, fun return with a great side-scrolling navigational tool that makes it easy to keep the action moving. The game’s storyline revolves around Sonic the Hedgehog and his companions, Knuckles and Tails.

The three friends head out to defeat Doctor Eggman and his robotic henchmen, the Hard Boiled Heavies. The game was produced in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the original Sonic the Hedgehog release, one of the first games that was produced by the independent studios PagodaWest Games. Sonic Mania plays on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Windows and PlayStation 4.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole

South Park continues to be one of the biggest hits on TV and the video game franchise isn’t far behind. Fractured But Whole follows up on the success of The Stick of Truth. It may be a bit less original and a bit less funny but it’s also less buggy. There’s a great combat system and a storyline of fantasy and superheroes. The combination of South Park wit and satire shines through in this light-hearted gaming adventure.

As the game unfolds, the New Kid becomes involved in an epic roleplay in which two rival superhero factions vie to create superhero media franchises. They uncover a conspiracy to raise crime in the town which brings them into conflict with genetically engineered monster supervillains whom they must battle as they contend with their families, the police, criminals and others.


Cuphead, from Studio MDHR, blends super-challenging platforming with a vintage art style and wacky music to produce one of the year’s most noticeable games. Cup head is Xbox One’s Best Game of the Year and deserving of the  accolades. . The indie game focuses on Cuphead and his brother Mugman who must fight the bosses in order to repay their debt to the devil.

The game has garnered notice for its challenging levels of play and the art style that was inspired by the rubber hose style of animation of 1930s cartoons. The game is noted for its run and gun levels, role-playing interludes and fight scenes.

Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

A list of 2017 games would be incomplete without mentioning Nintendo’s Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild.The action-adventure game is part of the Legend of Zelda series which features open-ended gameplay, options for experimentation and exploration in a story that follows Link who awakens from a hundred-year slumber.

A mysterious voice guides Link to defeat Calamity Ganon before the kingdom of Hyrule is destroyed.The gameis played in an open world platform that allows the player to explore at his own pace. Link collects armor, food and weapons as he prepares to engage in combat with Calamity Ganon. Waypoints allow the player to explore puzzles, warp tos and non-player characters and receive advice and embark on side-quests. Breath of the Wild has been called a landmark in open-world design and is a great game option for intermediate and advanced-level gamers.
